What Is Thermocol Sheet?
Thermocol sheet is made from Expanded Polystyrene (EPS), polystyrene beads expanded under heat and pressure into a rigid, ultra-lightweight foam sheet with millions of tiny trapped air pockets, which is what makes it an excellent insulator. In Pakistan it goes by several names for the same material: thermocol sheet (generic), thermopore sheet (IK Thermopore brand), EPS sheet (technical), styrofoam sheet (loosely used international brand), and foam sheet (informal).

Thermocol Sheet Uses in Pakistan

Always compare by density (kg/m³), not just thickness, a 2-inch sheet at 14 kg/m³ costs less than one at 20 kg/m³, but the denser version insulates significantly better and lasts much longer. Virgin EPS (100% new material) insulates better than recycled thermocol, which is cheaper but breaks easily.

Jumbolon (XPS) sheets are stronger and more water-resistant than EPS, priced PKR 3,500–7,000 per sheet. Verdict for most homeowners: start with 2-inch thermocol for roof insulation, best value for money, and upgrade to jumbolon or PU spray foam for cold storage or premium projects.
How to Install Thermocol Sheet for Roof Insulation
On top of roof slab (most common): clean the surface, lay sheets flat starting from one corner, butt joints tightly with no gaps, tape all seams with aluminium foil tape, then cover with a protective layer (brick tile, screed, or foil) to prevent UV and foot traffic damage.
Under roof slab (during construction): fixed under the slab formwork before the concrete pour, remaining permanently embedded for the best insulation result.
Interior false ceiling: press-fit sheets into a wood batten or metal channel frame below the concrete ceiling, then finish with a false ceiling board.
